- Goodbye and good luck to Yvonne, who will be leaving us at the end of this term. We will all miss you.
- Our Mission Statement is now available to read on the Information page of our website. Also available are blank WOW Stars and News from Home printouts. Children love to bring WOW stars from home to share their achievements with their friends. We read these out to the group and then the children stick them into their books. We are also interested in hearing and sharing any other news from home.
2011
- The children enjoyed a wonderful Christmas party at preschool on Friday 16th December. Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to make the morning special and to everybody who helped with the cafe afterwards. What a lovely way to end the term! Happy Christmas!
- Thank you to everybody who came to our book sale in November. We hope you found some lovely books and good bargains too! Thanks to Ian and Beck for arranging it… £130 raised for preschool!
- Thank you to everybody who attended the preschool AGM on 22nd September. It was an enjoyable evening, with examples of the children's work and photos to look at, and uniforms available to order. A new committee for 2011/12 was elected - many thanks to everybody who has volunteered to be on the committee this year, and of course huge thanks to the committee that has just stood down. Your support and dedication has been vital to the running of the preschool.
- Thank you for filling in and returning the parent questionnaires. We have compiled the feedback into a document. Click here to read it.
- We have a new webshop! Help raise money for St Helen’s Preschool by doing your online shopping via our new Spend and Raise eStore. There are over 100 leading retailers and each time you shop with these retailers via our eStore, a commission is generated and given to the preschool by the retailer (at no extra cost to you). - We all had a great time at the Thornbury Carnival with our sea-themed “float”. Photos of the carnival float and 2011 leavers can be viewed here.
- Thank you to everybody who came to see us or helped out with our stall at the Alveston Community Show. The secret auction went really well – thank you to Jack for providing the auction items. Thanks also to the Round Table who ran the ever popular bouncy castle and popcorn stand on our behalf. We hope you all had a fun afternoon.
- Another school year has finished which means that some of our children will be moving up to “big school”. Good luck to all our leavers.

- Thank you to everybody who collected Tesco vouchers for us and to Mike and Wendy for coordinating the collection. We are excitedly awaiting delivery of a water butt and stand from Tesco!
- Don't forget the preschool AGM on 22nd September – further information is in the “Forthcoming events” section below.
Committee news... As ever, our dedicated committee of parents and carers has been working hard to support and develop the preschool. Several braved below freezing temperatures in December to help the Round Table with Santa's sleigh as it toured the neighbourhood, for which the Round Table has donated £60 to preschool funds. Many thanks to the Round Table.
This year, the preschool committee AGM will take place in September. Any parents or carers who would like to know more about the work of the committee, with a view to joining from September, should speak to a committee member – Jo and Donna are our chairpersons, or Tricia can direct you to the other committee members. Remember that preschool is a committee run setting; without a committee we cannot have a preschool. Click here to find out more about the committee.
Welcome to Michael Slade, who has taken over as Treasurer.
Tesco vouchers... We are collecting Tesco vouchers again this year. Please bring your vouchers to preschool.

Christmas at preschool... Thank you to Father Christmas, who has been very generous to the children this year, giving them a beautiful doll's house to play with. We'd also like to say a HUGE thank you to the lady who donated the most amazing gingerbread house to the children. It was the centre of attention before their Christmas party. All the children were very excited by it and it was a very clever piece of baking and architecture. We also had our raffle for the Christmas hamper; hopefully the winner enjoyed all the delights the basket contained. Thank you to all who donated to the hamper and bought raffle tickets. This raised £50 for the preschool.
Halloween party... What a great night! Thank you to all who attended, we hope you had a good time. Thanks to all who helped out and donated to the raffle, and special thanks to Claire Shaw for organising the whole thing. We raised £200 for the preschool.
VOLUNTEER TREASURER REQUIRED... Our wonderful treasurer, Jane, wishes to step down due to other commitments. This means that a vacancy has arisen for a volunteer treasurer for the preschool. This is a vital role and the preschool cannot run without a treasurer on the committee. If anyone might be interested please contact us initially by email to discuss the role and responsibilities.
Christmas raffle... don't forget to buy your raffle tickets from Claire Shaw for your chance to win a luxury Christmas hamper!
Alveston Community Show... Thank you to all who donated to and helped with the Preschool's stall at Alveston Community Show and everybody who visited us on the day. We raised about £100 with the tombola and lots of people won some great prizes. The bug houses were very popular too... there will be some very cosy bugs in the village now!
Thornbury Carnival, July 2010... Thank you to everybody who took part in, helped with, or came to watch and support our procession through Thornbury at the Carnival on 3rd July.

Smarties collection... Our Smarties fundraising collection has now finished. We raised just over £100. Thank you and well done! Don't forget to buy your summer raffle tickets from Maxine or Claire!
